Theological education is one of the most strategic ministries in Africa today. Bible Colleges are crying out for more lecturers to train the next generation of Church leaders. One lecturer can train hundreds of students who will go on to become Pastors and Evangelists that have a good depth of biblical knowledge. We work with 4 Bible Colleges in Nigeria that offer a range of courses from basic Bible training to Masters Degrees. Two years minimum commitment; bachelors degree in theology required, Masters or PhD an advantage. |

Camps & Missions Summer Volunteers
Picture the scene – a church hall packed full of children, young people, and leaders. Some playing games, others doing craft and some studying the bible together. Or how about a normally tranquil lake suddenly full of young people splashing around in canoes, trying to get their leaders as wet as possible but not fall in themselves! Or perhaps you might be able to imagine a group of boys on the beach praising God at sunset. Scenes like this were happening at Scripture Union Camps and Missions all over Northern Ireland last summer, as over 850 volunteers gave up a week or two to share God’s Good News with around 5000 children and young people - summer 2010 will be no different! Well hopefully we might get a bit more sun and a little less rain, but there will still be volunteers shining light into dark places all across the country and you could be part of it! |

Last year we found out first hand that having a simple, decent home brings hope to the heart of a community. Habitat's work in Romania began in Beius, nearly 15 years ago, however there is still much to be done across the country - 1/3rd of all homes in Romania are in need of urgent repair. This is why the Big Build is returning to Beius in October to rebuild the ‘White House’. This will bring us one step closer to eliminating poverty housing from the town and we would love you to join us! Reach Program: International student ministry
39 Woodbrook Green Lisburn BT28 2ZJ e: cosmin@friendsinternational.org.uk t: 07788411236 Who? The Reach Programme is especially designed for: 1) Committed Christians who have recently graduated 2) Those willing to give one year or two of their time to befriend and share the gospel with international students 3) Fluent English speakers What’s the job? As a Reach volunteer with Friends International you will spend one or two years befriending and sharing the Gospel with international students. You will be based in one of the main University cities alongside an experienced member of staff, who will be your supervisor. Your daily timetable will be decided together with your supervisor but will include: helping to organise programmes of events, leading Bible studies (one to one or small group), visiting students, supporting and encouraging local church volunteers. As part of the year we would encourage you to take part in one of the summer outreach campaigns either in the UK or abroad. Training and Study We see this year as not only an opportunity for Friends International and the local church to have an extra team member to help but as a year to invest in you as a person, to help you grow in your relationship with Christ and develop your gifts. We see training and study as key components of the year. There will be three residential conferences • September – an Orientation conference which marks the start of the Reach Volunteer year • January – Friends International annual staff conference • June – a Debriefing conference to review and evaluate the year Additional training will come via: – Regional team days (once a term meeting with local FI staff) – “On the job” informal training as you work alongside your supervisor – A personal study programme, which all Reach Volunteers are expected to undertake Finances As a Volunteer you will be responsible for raising your own finances. Experience has shown that it can cost from £5,000 to £7,000 annually depending on living arrangements and personal expenses. You will also be asked to make a contribution of £475 to Friends International towards the cost of the training programme. This is a real challenge and one that all Friends International staff face, but it’s also a great opportunity to learn about God’s provision. Friends, churches and family are often happy to give to your support. We will help you communicate your needs to them. Practical Details The year begins in September and runs for twelve months. Each week you will have one day off in addition to Sunday, which can be quite a busy day. You will also get five weeks holiday and national bank holidays. Important Details Before you complete the application form (available to download at the bottom of the page) we’d encourage you to discuss your application with your local church leaders. It’s good to include them in your plans early on especially if you’ll be asking them for money! If you do apply, please would you send with your application form a sterling cheque for £30 made payable to Friends International (or the equivalent in a Euro cheque). We undertake to return this sum to unsuccessful applicants, but if you withdraw from the application process we regret that the deposit is non–returnable. It also covers the cost of the Reach Handbook which will be sent to you on successful completion of the application process. The closing date for applications is April 30th. If before submitting your application you want to chat informally or visit a current placement, please contact us at the address below and we’ll be happy to arrange this. Our procedure on receipt of the application form is to take up references and based upon them and the application form we will decide whether or not to interview. We’re really excited to have the opportunity to take 100 young people (18+) to Egypt; to go, serve and encourage our persecuted family living under immense pressure. Life in Egypt has changed dramatically since the ‘Arab Spring’, and we believe this is an amazing opportunity for us to send a team passionate about Jesus and passionate to get alongside the church in Egypt, especially children and young people. We’re organising this trip in response to being asked by our Egyptian team who want to do something really unique to mark the Olympics and use a mix of sport, drama, music and art to get alongside young people. After a time of orientation, teaching, and team building all together in Cairo, the idea is to send out smaller teams into a number of cities/towns in Egypt, what an opportunity to serve and bless! There will, of course, also be a chance to see some of Egypt’s historic sites. |

Medical Electives
Interserve's medical electives offer a fantastic way to get young medical students exposed to world mission at a very formative time in your lives! We can place a good number of electives in different locations but never more than 2 electives in one location due to a shortage of accommodation at the hospitals. Most placements can be finalised within 2 months, on some occasions even shorter (NB. For the CMC Hospital, Vellore placement- you need to apply 6 months in advance). So many young people have gone to North Africa, the Middle East and Asia for their medical electives and had life-changing experiences! PAKISTAN: > Bach Christian Hospital > Woman’s Christian Hospital, Multan (Excellent electives at these hospitals) BANGLADESH: > LAMB Hospital (Up to 4 electives at a time, apply 6 months in advance. Very rural, fantastic support and exposure at LAMB) > ICDDRB, Dhaka (for an urban elective) NEPAL: > Tansen (UMN hospital) (2 at a time, throughout the year) > Okhalohunga (UMN) > Patan (independent hospital) (3 at a time, throughout the year) > Green Pastures (INF hospital) (1 at a time, 3 per year) All of these hospitals are tried and tested places for electives! THE GULF: If you are interested in doing your medical elective in the Gulf, there may be opportunities in Dubai, Bahrain or the Emirates, but you would need to contact the hospitals directly. INDIA: > Vellore > Oddanchatram > Seven Day Adventist, Pune > Raxaul (EHA hospital) > Landour (EHA) > Herbertpur (EHA) > Utraula (EHA) > Lalitpur (EHA) > Chinchpada (EHA) (Most EHA hospitals are rural placements and are often isolated, but a they offer a great experience) > Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Washim > GEMS Hospital, Bihar > Padmashree Dr.D.Y.Patil Hospital & Research Centre, Navi Mumbai (this is a secular hospital, which is well equipped. One of the Senior Doctors from EHA, has moved here and said that it is a good place for medical electives. For those who want an urban placement this is. However, they will need to know that it is secular, with many opportunities to interact with people of other faiths. Navi Mumbai is like an extension of Mumbai city). |
